The Mullet Dress

Just a few weeks ago Nicole Richie attended the the 2012 FIFI awards and in a gorgeous, black, baby doll, mullet dress that in my opinion took this trend to another level.

The mullet dress, much like the hairstyle, is short at the front and long at the back, or like “they” say, “business at the front, party at the back.” Just like the hairstyle, this dress style has always gotten a lot of mixed reviews. Most people either love it or hate it. Like most trends, the mullet dress is most certainly not for every one. Nicole Richie though, is very petite so along with her hairstyle and accessories she nailed this look. Another aspect of her dress that I like are the sleeves. I’m not a fan of long sleeve dresses but I think this is what makes this particular mullet dress memorable (try to picture the dress without the sleeves.)

Quite a number of celebrities have worn this trend over the years with a number of variations to a range of events. Check out these photos to see which adaptation of this style you like the best.

Beyonce

Jessica Alba

Selena Gomez

Miley Cyrus

Christina Aguilera

Granted, some of these dresses are very costume-ish and may not be very practical for your everyday gals like you and me. However, mullet dresses are available in simple variations and did I mention that there are also mullet skirts?

So what do you think of this trend? Would you wear it? As always, feel free to send us photographs of how you wore this or any trend to trufashionfink@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to feature you on our blog.

Nicki Minaj’s Makeup

Have you ever paid close attention to Nicki Minaj’s makeup? With all that she has going on sometimes with her outfits and hairstyles, it can be easy to miss. If you ever happen to focus long enough on her face you’d notice how gorgeous her makeup could be at times.

Perhaps one of the most note worthy aspects of her makeup is her lip stick. A color that is significant with Nicki is pink, which might explain why she has her very own pink M.A.C. lip color. Yes she does! It was released around the same time that the singer released her Pink Friday album and get this, the lip color is called Pink 4 Friday. Recently she teamed up with M.A.C. again along with Ricky Martin to create VIVA GLAM a limited edition lipstick that all sale goes towards helping women, men and children living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Besides her lips, my favorite aspect of her makeup are her lashes. At times they can be very bold but they always complement her look.  Bold lashes can be achieved by either adding eyelash extensions or by applying your favorite mascara. Lashes make a big difference to your finished makeup look, try some and you’ll see.

Tip: Candy pink lips look best in matte lip shades with a little gloss added. Revlon and L’Oréal also carry matte lipsticks in a range of colors.

Have you tried this lip trend?

Color Blocking

Are you afraid of color? Have you heard about color blocking? I’m sure you’ve seen it around lately. It certainly is a bold trend but you’re not afraid of fashion. Color blocking is when you take opposite or contrasting colors and combine them. The results can be  pretty striking but then that’s the whole point. The thing about fashion is that you can’t run from it and this trend is everywhere. Some garments are already constructed into the trend or is it the trend into the garment? Either way it makes it easier to wear the trend since you don’t have to figure out how to mix and match the colors.

Quite a number of celebrities are wearing this trend already. Maybe after seeing it on them you may be more inclined to try it. Here are some for your viewing pleasure.

Tyra Banks

Rihanna

Ashley Greene

Kim Kardashian

Leona Lewis

Ashley Tisdale

Who do you think wore this trend the best?  Would you wear this trend? Feel free to send us pictures of how you wear this trend and we’ll feature you on our blog.

Would you wear this trend?

Pastel and brightly colored jeans.

Kim Kardashian wore her pastel jeans with neutrals. (love those sandals)

Lauren Conrad also stuck to neutrals with her bright red jeans. (looks great with the striped top, sort of nautical)

Do you like this trend? Would you wear it?  Maybe you’ve tried it already. Let us know what you think. 🙂

Mascaras

One thing I never leave out of my makeup routine is mascara. Mascara darkens, thickens and lengthens your lashes. Who wouldn’t want that? It brings out your eyes and makes them more noticeable. Great to use if you’ve had a long night since it makes you look more “awake.” Even if you don’t wear much makeup, it would be a great idea to dab on some mascara if you just want to change up your look.

I’ve tried a few mascara brands but the one that I tend to stick to is Maybelline. The one that I use the most though is their Great Lash Mascara and I’ll continue to use it unless I find something that gives me better results.

It’s hard to miss in its signature pink and green packaging, this mascara has been around for over forty years. Excellent for volume, this mascara is also hypoallergenic and contact lens safe. The wand on this mascara is what I like most. The narrow tip allows for contact with the tiny lashes in the inner corner of your eye so nothing gets left out. It is a bit hard to wash off but applying a bit of make up remover will loosen it up making the task easier.

The price of this mascara is around $37TT dollars and available at your local Pennywise outlets.

For hygienic purposes it is advised that you change your mascara every 3 to 4 months.

Are you a Great Lash fan as well? Share with us what you like about it or tell us what is your favorite mascara.

Weekend Fashion.

You live for the weekends, don’t you? I guess we all do. This is because weekends are supposed to be fun or at least a change from the regular during the week routine. Even if this is not the case, we all look forward to those breaks when we can relax or do that thing we’ve been meaning to do for ages now. Not only is it a change from what we do but it is a change from what we wear. We finally get to ditch the work clothes and the school clothes for something that is more “us.”  Here are some great easy to put together looks for weekends that you can wear to run errands, go shopping, or just to hang out with friends.

Great to run errands in, try paring a t-shirt with your favorite shorts and flip flops. This look is low on style but high on comfort.

My Weekend Looks

Staying in the shorts department, this look is a bit more fashionable. This is great for going shopping or meeting up with friends.

My weekend looks 2

This look consists of a couple of my favorite things, converse sneakers and cut off jeans. We all own a pair of cut off jeans and if you don’t, they are so easy to make. Pair jeans with a basic camisole and a plaid shirt that you can tie to the front or just leave open.

My weekend looks 3

Sun dresses are so cute. They are also adaptable to suit many occasions, from going to the beach to grocery shopping. Just loose the hat if you’re going shopping.

My weekend looks

For those who are reluctant to show off too much skin, I didn’t leave you out. This is a look that I just love and it comprises of a basic item that I’m sure you already own, the maxi dress. The maxi dress is more adaptable than the sun dress and is suitable for many body types. Pair with comfortable footwear and accessorize to suit your taste and you got it.

My weekend looks 4

We all have our own opinion when it comes to fashion. These looks are based on what I personally like and on the the fact that I live in a Caribbean country, which means it  is often very hot outside. Please feel free to share with us what you like to wear on the weekends, we’d love to hear from you. 🙂

Fashion Icon – Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker, who turned 47 today (March 25), happens to be one of my favorite style icons. I fell in love with SJP mainly because of her character Carrie Bradshaw, in “Sex and the City.” Carrie has a shopping addiction that  I’m sure most women can identify with and she is a shoe fanatic who spends hundreds of dollars on her foot wear. She always look fabulous and her outfits never cease to amaze me. I wish so much that I could raid Carrie’s closet, don’t you?

A while back she teamed up with Steve & Barry’s to sell her “Bitten” line, “women should be able to wear great clothes and not lie in bed at night feeling guilty about how much money they’ve spent,” said SJP. I guess she understands that not everyone would be able to afford the high end designer brands that she can. In reality SJP is like Carrie Bradshaw times ten, she has a very unique sense of fashion that can be daring at times but  she always makes a memorable statement. Here are some of my favorite SJP looks.

Totally glamorous isn’t she!?
